Finding the Right Auto Accessories

Hello, my name is Francis and this is my auto accessories blog. Last year, I purchased a vintage camper van. I had always dreamt of owning a camper van so I could drive around Australia, exploring the towns, cities and the countryside. However, when I finally took ownership of the van, I quickly realised why it had been for sale at such a low price. The van was missing a lot of accessories such as the original gear stick, the wing mirrors and the seat covers. Thankfully, my friend who is an auto expert, taught me how to find the perfect accessories for the van.

Answering Your Questions About Truck Grille Guards

by Roger Jackson

If you want to add some style and protection to the front of your truck, you might opt for grille or brush guards, or bull bars. These pieces are a virtual necessity for off-roading and can protect the truck's radiator and all other parts that are close to the front of the vehicle. If you're thinking about getting grille guards for your truck, note a few questions you might have about this equipment and how they work to protect your truck.

What is the difference between a grille guard and a bull bar?

A grille guard typically has several horizontal and vertical pieces that fit across the width of your truck's front grille, to keep bugs, leaves, seeds, and other debris away from the truck's radiator and other such parts. In some cases, a grille guard may be purely decorative, made of a shiny chrome or aluminium, and will simply add style to the truck's front, without working to keep anything out of the actual front grille.

A bull bar is one solid, thick bar that starts at one side of the truck's front bumper, curves over the front grille, and then ends at the other side of the bumper. A bull bar usually comes with a skid plate, which is attached to the front bumper and curves under the truck. The skid plate and the bull bar are meant for rougher terrain, allowing you to drive over tall brush and weeds, brushing them under the plate and away from the truck's underside.

Do grille guards or bull bars affect the operation of the airbag?

Airbags usually deploy because of a forceful stop, and because of vibrations that travel along a vehicle's front end. A grille guard or bull bar may absorb a slight bit of those vibrations in an impact, but this equipment is not meant to protect the vehicle in a collision, so it will not interfere with the sensors in an airbag.

Do grille guards or bull bars protect the vehicle if it hits an animal?

A grille guard or bull bar may protect your vehicle's grill and front end from some damage if you were to hit an animal, but note that very large animals especially, such as a full-grown kangaroo or moose, will typically do quite a bit of damage to a vehicle no matter the protective equipment on the front. The grille guard or bull bar may reduce that damage slightly, but don't assume having one means you can ignore animal warning signs or drive recklessly when off-roading.
