Finding the Right Auto Accessories

Hello, my name is Francis and this is my auto accessories blog. Last year, I purchased a vintage camper van. I had always dreamt of owning a camper van so I could drive around Australia, exploring the towns, cities and the countryside. However, when I finally took ownership of the van, I quickly realised why it had been for sale at such a low price. The van was missing a lot of accessories such as the original gear stick, the wing mirrors and the seat covers. Thankfully, my friend who is an auto expert, taught me how to find the perfect accessories for the van.

Top Tips When Buying Single Axle Trailers

by Roger Jackson

Single-axle trailers are ideal for people who wish to transport light goods such as camping gear and farming tools but do not have sufficient space in their vehicles. The primary advantage of single-axle trailers is that they are affordable and readily available. If you wish to buy one of these trailers, read the extract below for some essential tips.

Determine A Suitable Build Quality

As a buyer, you would want a trailer that serves you for years without breaking down. As such, it would be wise to conduct some background research on the various builders to establish which companies make durable trailers. Internet reviews and customer testimonials will provide crucial details on the longevity of the various brands. Additionally, check the availability of trailer replacement parts and repair shops.

Single-axle trailers can be built from aluminium or steel. Steel is preferred due to its ability to withstand rugged conditions. For instance, you can use the trailer to transport rocks without the fear that its body will get defaced over time. The disadvantage of the material is that it is considerably heavy. Aluminium is a viable alternative since it is lightweight, rust-proof, and durable. Although light, aluminium trailers can haul considerable weight.

Trailer Features

Below are some features to look out for when buying a single-axle trailer:

  • Check the trailer design. For example, do you prefer an enclosed, box or flatbed trailer? You could go for a gooseneck trailer if you intend to use the trailer for camping purposes.
  • Assess the weight and weight limits of the trailer. Ideally, go for a light trailer with a high payload.
  • Check the trailer dimensions. As a rule of thumb, the trailer should not be too long or too wide. Remember, it has a single axle; thus, unusual dimensions would make the trailer unstable.
  • Check the trailer accessories. These include the size of the tires, the type of brakes, and electrical components such as the lights. Besides, the trailer's coupler should fit into the hitch at the back of your car.

New Versus Used Single Axle Trailers

The primary benefit of new trailers is that they will last for a long time and come with a manufacturer warranty. Used trailers, on the other hand, are affordable. However, assess the condition of these trailers to ensure you get value for your money. For example, inspect the trailer for signs of rust, body damage, and a bent frame. Besides, check the brakes and lighting.

You should now have an easy time buying a single-axle trailer. Assess the trailer's build quality, features, and determine whether you will buy a new or used trailer.
